Zipper Sets and Workshop Production Packs
What Is a Zipper Set?
A zipper set is a package assembled for a defined production, repair or sampling purpose. It may contain ready-length zippers, continuous chain, sliders or several lengths and colors from one zipper family.
Not every set has the same format. The buyer should first determine whether the project requires finished zippers or cut-to-length chain that still needs slider installation and end preparation.
Set Selection by Workshop Type
| Workshop | Suggested Set | Important Check |
|---|---|---|
| Wallet and small-bag maker | Short #3 closed-end zipper pack | Verify every included length, color and quantity. |
| Bag and equipment-case workshop | #5 continuous chain and slider set | Compare slider quantity with single- or two-slider consumption. |
| Jacket and vest maker | 47–53 cm / 18.50–20.87 in open-end zipper pack | Confirm separating construction and exact length distribution. |
| Formalwear and tailoring workshop | 18 / 22 / 30 / 35 cm invisible zipper set | These equal 7.09 / 8.66 / 11.81 / 13.78 in. |
| Abaya and long-garment repair | 100 / 120 / 160 cm long zipper set | These equal 39.37 / 47.24 / 62.99 in; verify end type. |
| Outdoor and technical textile workshop | TPU- or PU-coated chain set | Check coating, chain length and actual slider contents. |
| Tent and tarpaulin workshop | Heavy coil or molded continuous-chain set | Do not mix sliders made for different chain constructions. |
Ready-Length Zipper Packs
Ready-length sets contain finished zippers with installed sliders and prepared end construction. They may be suitable for repair services, samples and workshops using repeatable garment or accessory measurements.
Examples include short wallet zippers, children's jacket zippers, mixed invisible-zippers and full-length abaya zipper packs.
Continuous Chain and Slider Sets
Continuous-chain sets contain a stated quantity of chain and, where specified, a number of compatible sliders. The chain is cut during manufacturing.
Common quantities in the category include:
- 8 m / 26.25 ft with 8 components
- 10 m / 32.81 ft with 10 sliders
- 20 m / 65.62 ft with 10 or 20 sliders
- 50 m / 164.04 ft with 25 sliders
- 100 m / 328.08 ft with 50 sliders
- 200 m / 656.17 ft with 100 sliders
The description must state whether a listed “pull” is a complete slider body or only a pull tab.
Starter, Trial and Production Sets
- Starter set: Small pack for basic repair or first-time use.
- Trial set: Used to test a chain, coating, color or slider before larger production.
- Repair set: Mixed ready lengths for alterations and service stock.
- Production set: Larger quantity for repeat workshop manufacturing.
- High-volume set: 50–200 m / 164.04–656.17 ft continuous chain packages.
Calculating Chain and Slider Requirements
- Measure the actual closure path for one product.
- Add sewing, end-finishing and curve allowances.
- Multiply by the production quantity.
- Add sampling and cutting waste.
- Determine whether each product uses one or two sliders.
- Compare the required slider total with the package contents.
Separating and Two-Way Terminology
A separating or open-end zipper allows both tapes to detach at the bottom. It is not automatically a two-way zipper.
Two-way or combi should only be used when the zipper has two sliders and can open from the lower section.
Common Buying Mistakes
- Do not infer package contents only from product photographs.
- Do not describe every separating zipper as lower-opening or two-way.
- Do not confuse ready-length packs with continuous-chain sets.
- Do not assume equal color quantities in a mixed-color pack.
- Do not mix #3, #5, #10 coil or molded-chain sliders.
- Do not promise full waterproofing from a coated zipper set alone.
- Do not order high chain quantities without calculating slider consumption.
Frequently Asked Questions
What can a zipper set contain?
It may contain ready-length zippers, continuous zipper chain, sliders or products in several lengths and colors. Verify the written package contents.
Are sliders included in continuous zipper sets?
Some sets include a stated number of sliders, while chain-only products may not. Check the exact chain and slider quantities.
What is the difference between a starter and production set?
A starter set contains a smaller quantity for testing or low-volume work. A production set provides a larger quantity for repeated manufacturing.
Are colors fixed in mixed zipper sets?
Not always. Colors may be fixed, mixed or dependent on current stock. Confirm the distribution in the product description.
How many products can be made from 100 metres of zipper chain?
It depends on chain use per product, cutting waste and whether each closure uses one or two sliders.
Does “zipper pull” mean a complete slider?
Not necessarily. It may refer to a pull tab rather than the complete slider body. The package description should identify the exact component.
