What Is a Closed-End Zipper?
A closed-end zipper has a bottom stop that keeps both zipper tapes joined when the slider reaches the lower end. The chain opens, but the left and right tapes do not separate completely.
Closed-end zippers are also called bottom-stop zippers. The bottom stop prevents the slider from leaving the chain and defines the lower end of the closure.
Closed-end does not mean waterproof, airtight or permanently sealed.

Single-Slider and Dual-Slider Closed-End Zippers
Single-slider closed-end zippers are widely used for trousers, pockets, wallets, dresses, cushions and small bags.
Some bags, luggage items and equipment cases use two separate sliders on one closed-end chain.
A dual-slider closed-end bag zipper is not a two-way separating or combi zipper. A combi zipper is an open-end outerwear construction with two sliders and lower-opening operation.
A slider with two pull tabs is also not the same as two separate slider bodies.
Nylon Coil Closed-End Zippers
Nylon coil zippers use a continuous spiral chain and can provide a flexible closure for wallets, bags, pockets, trousers, skirts, cushions and cases.
Verified Turkish Type 5 coil products should use #3 in English product naming, while verified Turkish Type 10 products should use #5.

Invisible Closed-End Zippers
An invisible zipper is a specialised closed-end nylon coil zipper whose chain folds behind the tape and remains concealed inside a garment seam.
It is used for dresses, skirts, bridalwear, formalwear and women's trousers where minimum exterior visibility is required.

Molded Plastic Closed-End Zippers
Molded plastic zippers use individual plastic teeth attached to textile tape. They may be selected for jacket pockets, bags, accessories and visible fashion closures.
Standard, crocodile-tooth and metallic-look molded teeth remain plastic constructions.
The Turkish term “bone zipper” does not mean natural bone.
Genuine Metal Closed-End Zippers
Genuine metal-tooth closed-end zippers may be used for jeans, trousers, skirts, leather products, pockets and decorative bags.
The base alloy and the visible finish should be listed separately. Metallic-look nylon or molded teeth are not genuine metal chain.
Coated Closed-End Zippers
TPU- or PU-coated closed-end zippers may help reduce surface moisture entering through technical pockets, outdoor bags, footwear and equipment cases.
A coated zipper alone does not make the finished product fully waterproof. Stitching, slider gaps, the bottom stop, zipper ends, fabric and installation also affect protection.

Ready-Length and Continuous Chain
A ready-length closed-end zipper includes a defined functional length, installed slider and completed bottom stop.
Continuous zipper chain is cut during production and still requires compatible sliders and secure top and bottom finishing.
Continuous chain is not automatically a finished closed-end zipper.

How Is Closed-End Zipper Length Measured?
Measure the functional chain from the top stop to the bottom stop. Do not include additional zipper tape above or below the working chain.
Replacement selection should also match the chain material, zipper size, tape width, slider and bottom-stop construction.
Common Selection and Product-Data Errors
- Do not describe the bottom as capped, airtight or sealed.
- Do not classify every closed-end zipper as nylon.
- Do not describe a dual-slider closed-end bag zipper as combi.
- Do not confuse one double-pull slider with two slider bodies.
- Do not classify metallic-look nylon or plastic as genuine metal.
- Do not claim full waterproofing from a coated zipper alone.
- Do not treat continuous chain as a finished zipper.
- Do not approve replacement compatibility from length alone.
